Work with us

We’re a team of behaviour support practitioners and therapists working with autistic children, teens and adults, people with ADHD and children with developmental delay. Most of our work happens where behaviour happens: at home, at school, at kinder, and at our centre on Plenty Road in Bundoora.

Helping Hands Behaviour Support was started in 2022 by a Mental Health Nurse and Educator. We’re NDIS-registered, and we deliver Positive Behaviour Support (PBS), Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) therapy and early childhood intervention across Melbourne’s north, west, east and south-east.

If you want to do this work carefully and kindly, we’d like to hear from you.

What the work looks like

A typical week means travelling to families, schools and kinders, running one-to-one sessions, taking data, and talking with parents about what’s working. You’ll write notes that families and teachers can actually use. When the data says a strategy isn’t working, you change it.

You’ll work with families who are often tired and doing their best. Much of the job is listening before suggesting anything.

How we practise

Everyone on our team works to the same commitments. You’ll:

  • Work out what a behaviour is doing for the person before trying to change it
  • Change what’s around the person and teach new skills, rather than punish
  • Never try to stop stimming or ask an autistic person to mask
  • Take data, share it with families and adjust the plan when it says so
  • Reduce restrictive practices wherever they exist, and follow NDIS authorisation and reporting rules where they must remain

If that’s how you already want to work, you’ll fit in here.

The kind of people we work with

Our team includes people working in:

  • Positive Behaviour Support: assessing what’s behind a behaviour, writing behaviour support plans and training families and support teams to use them. Practitioners are registered under the NDIS PBS Capability Framework.
  • ABA therapy: running one-to-one sessions that build skills like communication, play, daily routines and school readiness.
  • Early childhood intervention: working with children aged 0 to 8 and their families through play and everyday routines, under a key worker model.

What every role needs

  • A current Police Check
  • A current Working with Children Check
  • The right to work in Australia
